What I think about
When I'm trying not to think

Bus Fare to Memories

April 18, 2018 Earnest Painter

I found myself singing this song the other day. I can't say the last time I even heard it. I don't believe I ever heard a studio version. So, how did I know the words? Honestly I only remembered the last refrain - Kentucky... I'm coming home I'll never leave you any more...

We had an album when I was a small child, and I've no idea how we came about it. It was like a Country Music variety show, with a chorus singing some classics, a few spotlights that seemed like stars. I remember thinking at the time that Dolly Pardon was singing this song - and it is something she'd sing. But, now I don't know. I do know that it was recorded live with applause afterward.

The internet has me trained to expect instant and total gratification, but somehow I can't find this recording. Its in my memory. I know that a female - who I thought at the time was Dolly - sang Fire & Rain. I know that a chorus did a medley of songs including King of the Road and You Are My Sunshine.

While I'd like to hear that version of Bus Fare to Kentucky again, I will say that I don't recall it having the quality of instrumentals as this one does. While her voice sounds tinny and like it's from an old recording, which it is, the banjo, fiddles and the rest here are amazing here.

I hope you enjoy this. If you happen to know the obscure record I'm thinking of, please let me know what it is. And, do you have memories like this, that even our vast internet can't help you rediscover? Tell me about them in the comments.
