Small Town Parade

Elgin's Western Days celebration was this weekend. As I came home on Thursday evening I saw people setting up the carnival in Memorial Park on Main Street. (Actually, all parks in this town are named 'Memorial Park', for some reason – with none specifying a person or group of people to memorialize.) It made me think of the book, Something Wicked This Way Comes, which is one of the creepier Ray Bradbury books I've read. So, it didn't exactly make me feel warm and fuzzy. A day later when I saw children being hurled around on tilting, spinning torture machines I still didn't feel the warmth, though I do remember being young and enjoying that sort of thing.

Saturday morning was the parade. This is not the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC; it's a small town parade for small town people to get together and enjoy each others' company and support each others' businesses. It's also a good opportunity for people to express creativity on vehicles, which I am always a fan of.
